My freind was getting disability check from S.S. While he was working as a roofer under the table he fell off the roof and had a back injury. Well he sued the roofing company. They are paying worker compensation. He has been getting a worker comp check every week for about two years now. and a disability check fron the S.S. Well every thing was going great until the insurance found out. They called the S.S. and told them about it. was that legal for the insurance to invade his privacy. and give out private imformation to the S.S.

The fact that he was working the system for the money in the first place he is risking fraud charges.
But the fact he was working under the table and was not a documented employee and filed a workmens comp case he is opening himself up for the SS to come after him and IRS. which is not going to be pretty.
I would of just stuck to SS and being maybe a walmart greeter..

You didn't say how the insurance company found out about it. Insurance companies hire investigators to verify if people receiving worker's comp are really injured, as they have claimed to be.

They probably just reviewed his bank records which are available to insurance companies if a person has not "opted out" of the privacy policy of their bank. If this is what happened, they quickly spotted the SS check deposits and his privacy was not legally violated.

When they notified the Social Security Administration, they were reporting a crime and every citizen has a right to do that. From you friend's perspective, everything may have been "going great", but he was double dipping and that is a big no-no from a legal standpoint.

He could be in big trouble because he was defrauding the government by claiming to be disabled when he was actually fit enough to work as a roofer. He may owe them all the disability payments they made to him while he was working as a roofer as well as additional penalties for the crime of fraud. This is an offense he could be charged with in court.

Tell your friend to call a lawyer & wish him luck. He'll need it!!

They are obligated to do so by law. Not only S.S., they are also obligated to contact the IRS; and most likely had already done that. Now S.S. will sue him for all the funds that they had payed to him over the years, plus the IRS will sue him for back taxes. Some people even go to jail for this because it is considered to be a fraud.

Your friend is committing fraud and you worry if the insurance company is doing something illegal? Is this some kind of joke?

And it is NOT an invasion of his privacy. Get real. I hope he has to pay every single dime back and I hope they charge him with fraud, then the state will provide him with a roof over his head and three meals a day.

It's because of people like him (and you for not turning it in ~ you are just as guilty in this scheme) that our insurance rates keep skyrocketing.

Your friend is a crook and weather it was legal or not, and it is, is beside the point. He is cheating the hard working tax payer's, who do you think foots the bill for a crook like him? Every tax payer just has to pay more taxes.
I hope they throw him in jail, he committed fraud.

You're friend committed fraud. He may be lucky not to go to jail himself. Unfortunately this was the risk he took in playing the system the way he did.
