Since that awful day on September 11, 2001, there has been no organized, succesful terrorist attack on American soil.
Why not?

Could it be:

1-The Bush administration has done a good job protecting us?
2-Terrorists are being drawn more to Iraq , instead of America?
3-The terrorists are planning something even bigger and are just being patient?
4-The terrorism threat is not as bad as we thought?
5-We've just been lucky?
6-Some combination of the above?
I have my own ideas, but I want to know what you think. Why has there been no organized, succesful terrorist attack on American soil since 9-11?

P.S....please don't waste my time with any "9-11 was an inside job" answers. A clever filmmaker could make it look like your grandma orchestrated the 9-11 attacks.

1. No

2. Terrorists are drawn to the battle fields right now, so yes this is a contributing factor.

3. Something could very well be in the works.

4. Terrorism is a threat to all societies. Let's not forget these things take place in our own neighborhoods- victims being robbed at gunpoint, rapes, hate crimes, etc. However, in discussing 9-11 type of terrorism, I feel that our politics only further inflames the situation leading to more retalitory action on the other end.

5. Meh...

6. Yes.

The reason why there has been no attack reaching the magnitude of what took place on 9-11 is because of increased security at home and increased awareness. However, as the US continues to meddle in other countries' affairs, we are only bringing ourselves closer to another attack.

I do feel our intelligence operations have been taking the issue more seriously.
I also feel that it was a one time pay back aimed at George Dubawya that was a result of the fact the elder Bush had bad relations with BinLaden. The job should never of been left undone as it was when we pulled from the Desert the last operation. We left a war torn country in worse despair. Seems we are doing the same exact thing now!
Shouldn't we had learned from past mistakes? We did not start what has been a battle since the begining. We cannot stop it either!
We might be combating any terrorism at the moment but, if we are not extra sensitive we will be volnerable once more!
I feel we need to bring our troops home and protect our own soil!

That RKO guy is really good. Give him the 10 points. I would just like to add; By taking advantage of the border security.It is very highly likely that several dirty bombs could have already been smuggled across the Mexico/USA border via the Venezuela-Iranian connection and have already been detonated on the 4th of July. When fireworks camouflauged the detonations. It is possible that these radioactive dirty bombs containing radioactive dust particles have already contaminated hundreds of thousands or millions of people who were watching fire works and over several months and years people wil become ill due to cancers stimulated by the event and this will weaken the US economy to a certain small degree. But, a degree none the less. Yes there are radio geiger counters strategically positioned in New York etc. But, this is of no use. Since, they can just do their own tests in Iran and make containers that just seal up the radiation making it undetectable to "radar" or Geigar (get it Radar-Geigar,aren't I funny ?). Iran fought America economically in the 1980's by making counterfit $100 bills. Making the U.S hundreds worthless in Europe and the Midlle east and it worked. The iran-Venezuela conection. I watch Glen Beck's show and it was on the Yahoo front page several days ago;Hugo Chavez & Mahmoud ... whatever shaking hands. So, by then. They could have planned and executed their invisible and silent attack withiut being noticed. Sure, the geiger counters would detect the radio active dust particles. But, what are the authorities supposed to do ? Sound the alarm,cause panic,show the world how slow and incompetent they were to prevent it and tell millions of people in Boston,New york,Chicago,L.A,New York,Houston,Las Vegas etc. to evacuate the cities due to intelligence-security negligence yet again ? If Im not heard from ever again. It's because the CIA or some other Intelligence group will have taken me in for questioning and make me promise to seal my lips or else.

There has been very few attacks really in that scale. There was that WTC bombing in 90s. Oklahoma bombing in 90s. Can you think of any other big attacks like that? On US soil? By Islamic extremists?

How many attacks by Islamic extremists have you ever seen on US soil??????

How can you judge success when these attacks on US soil is so rare?????

1.It's extremely hard to measure success of Bush administration's actions when this type of attacks may or may not occur once every decade or even rarer than that. This is near impossible to measure.

Not entirely fair to say Bush provoked extremists when we got hit with 9/11 attack. Of course that doesn't mean Bush is headed in right direction.

2.Afghan have seen increasing number of Iraq style road side bombs. In recent days similar road side bomb attacks have been seen in Britain. IEDs, roadside bombs are making their way out of Iraq to other countries and its matter of time the US will see one or more. Many have become expert at it (IEDs) in Iraq and they're exporting materials and skills out to other countries from Iraq.

We can't stay in Iraq forever. We don't plan on killing entire Iraqi citizens to get rid of extremists. Many will eventually move through Europe, Asia, America and to the US. And it doesn't have to be actual person. Iraq already made huge contribution on development of highly efficient road side bombs.

Are we drawing terrorist to Iraq? Or are we arming them with weapons and knowledge in Iraq? So they can go else where with new knowledge.

This is what scares me the most. Seeing Iraq style IEDs on side of street in NYC, Wash DC or elsewhere in the US.

3.Nobody knows for sure, but it is real threat considering vast network of al Qaida and its ability to recruit on internet and through other media. They can inspire your neighbor to go blow up something tomorrow.
4.Nobody knows
5.Nobody knows
6.Probably and some luck too. Lot of stuff going on out of public's awareness.

It's kind of like you hold on to your hat, I hold on to my pants and see which one of us get hit by lighting first. Is it magic hat? Or magic pants? That will keep us getting hit by lightning.

I believe it's no. 3. Terrorists are willing to wait, their plans need to coordinate hundreds of people and they calculate the smallest details. It'll be a while.

Uhm, they are hiding and planning right now in North America and waiting for the right time for the boss says so. I hope it does not happen and hope they get caught before it happens. So, we all can live free from those sick brainwashed people. Freedom! Freedom! for us all.

I believe it was actually the Democrats efforts to bury their heads in the sand.

If we would surrender and perhaps bend over we would be even more safe.

I believe there's been no 'terrorist attack' because it's not been necessary to stage such an event since 9-11. Hitler once said: "How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think."
There is substantive, credible evidence that our own government might have participated in - or at least know about - the 9-11 attacks. Considering how many times our government has lied to us over the years, I find it implausible that otherwise intelligent citizens refuse to at least be skeptical. Think about it:
a) There is evidence that the government knew about the attack on Pearl Harbor and did nothing to stop it, since it would lead us into World War II;
b) To those who lived there and witnessed the events of 1947 in Roswell, New Mexico, the government has never satisfactorily explained what happened there;
c) Many believe the Warren Commission is a white-wash and all those documents (sealed until 2038) reveal what - or who - really killed John F. Kennedy;
d) Our government denied that U-2 spy planes were flying over the U.S.S.R. until Khrushchev shot one down and displayed it for all the world to see;
e) Our government fabricated stories about U.S. ships being attacked in the Gulf of Tonkin, which led us into the Vietnam War and helped boost the profits of countless government contractors in the 'war' business;
f) Our government lied about a third-rate burglary in the Watergate Hotel until two young reporters dug out the truth that led to the resignation of a sitting U.S. President;
g) Our government lied about Iraq's "weapons of mass destruction", which led us into an unconstitutional, illegal, unjustifiable, immoral 'war' wherein we attacked another sovereign nation that in no way threatened, provoked or attacked the United States;
h) Our government lied about the existence of secret CIA prisons where 'detainees' could avoid the legal protections of our laws;
i) Our Commander-In-Chief apparently condoned the torture and sexual abuse of 'detainees' in Cuba until some heroic 'whistleblower' smuggled horrific photos out for all the world to see;
j) Our government disregarded the rules of the Geneva Convention, to which the U.S. is a signatory;
k) Our government has lied to us all along about the real reasons why we're in Iraq: OIL and WAR PROFITEERING - so that the giant U.S. military-industrial complex (which Eisenhower warned us against) could boost its profits, and two 'newcomer' government contractors could share in the government cache of cash (the Carlyle Group, Halliburton and other government 'war' contractors have direct links to the Bush-Cheney White House);
l0 And, oh yes - our government has killed 675,000 Iraqis and 3,500 U.S. soldiers all for the sake of PROFIT at any cost, including putting our troops in harms' way for no moral, rational, justifiable reason. We are not in Iraq to bring democracy to that country; we are not in Iraq to help establish peace in the Middle East; we are not in Iraq as a matter of defending ourselves against a predatory nation that attacked us first. We are there - and will continue to be there, killing more and more people without any reasonable accountability, or accepting any responsibility - all so that a handful of Americans can get even more filthy rich than they already are. -RKO- 07/05/07
