YES! They are making choices for their unborn child that can have dire consequences! If they have to drink, they should wait till they give birth...and are not nursing the child. I quit drinking/partying when my first child was born - infants do not understand the word "hangover" - they have needs that have to be met since they cannot do things for themselves at this point.

I have to agree. FAS and FAE are not easy children to deal with. They usually wind up in the social system and they have a hard time functioning because they are generally dissociative and compassionate. When the mother realizes that the child is no longer in her control, that is when the downward spiral for the child begins.
It is so unfair to do this to an innocent who had no say in the matter. In Manitoba, Canada, they put a woman in JAIL when she was 5 months pregnant to prevent her from further poisoning her child with substance abuse. There is a precedent setting case and it SHOULD have been followed up by every province and state.

absolutely...with everything we know today about the negative effects of drinking on a fetus...it is just highly irresponsible and neglectful for a woman to do that to a baby. The same thing goes for smoking or use of any drug that could be harmful to the baby. If a pregnant woman is doing anything that is knowingly harmful to a baby with full knowledge of her pregnancy, then she should be held accountable.

It depends on the state law, provided by the constitutional rights of all the people.
In Philippines, alcohol abused during pregnancy is rarely noted, a vast distribution of information's were widely disseminated by health workers. But you may note a small ratio were present on cases of birth defects.

In my opinion is, it depends on what kind of drink the woman had, but definitely on alcohols, I may say its a a fact to be charge, and also it's on the woman's conscience, if shes still have it, through many reasons, its still a fact that its a gift from God and a Biological result of coitus.

This is hard to answer, if they did that, they'd also have to charge woman who smoke, do drugs...drink soda....i think it's aweful to drink and be pregnant, i never drank but should they go to jail?...that is so hard, i wanna say yes, but at the same time this is America...land of the free....if we start doing things like that...man, we wouldn't have freedom to do as we choose....i believe they should be fined maybe...a ticket...but jail i'm not sure about..i'm just so stuck..this was a great question though...makes ya think

>>Yes! I used to be a smoking, drinking waitress years ago but even then I would refuse to wait on any expectant mother who was drinking or smoking. I would let someone else have the table because I found it thoroughly repugnant and vile that anyone with child would willingly harm the unborn baby.

Not necessarily. There is little prognosis of the effects on the child. However, a woman who is pregnant should take precautions to ensure the health of her child. Child abuse would be a debate, but the decision of the mother should be one of an informed decision.

how about attempted murder?

If there was a consequence this severe it may detour the drinking as apposed to allowing them to drink and have babies with fetal alcohol syndrome which will affect the child for the rest of their life.

It depends - 1 drink on a rare time like a wedding is ok - like toast.
1- 2 glasses of wine with dinner is fine anymore is not right. If she is use to one to two her body can filter that out.
I prefer she didnt though - not regularly - she has to remember the baby hasnt a choice she does.
