I think behavioral therapy is excellent. I think psychoanalysts do more harm than good.

I know a few whether it was me or other people. I had one who would just listen and tell me stuff like well this is what I found from reading in this book blah blah. She didn't really give me any exercises or solutions. More like a friend.

I found a much better one and somehow she helped revive all my emotions.

One thing I wanna share with you, I have a friend that wanted to see a Christian counselor to ask a few questions about her own past and stuff and guess what?? She chickened out and wasted the therapist's time. Please don't do that ok>
Best of luck.

Oh yes, I'm going now because of some family problems and trying to rid myself of guilt and build my self-esteem and try to get to the root of some of my problems. In other words, I want to know how to tell people I'm not taking this crap any more in a polite way without screaming. Whether it works, that depends. I think you have to find a therapist you are compatible with and who you feel you can trust to be honest with you. It's expensive--$100 for 55 minutes and I think that's cheap compared to some.

I have personally been in therapy on and off for the last 6 years. Personally, I think that if you find the right therapist is works quite well. You have to be open to it though, otherwise it is pretty much a waste of your time.

It does if you let it. You have to go into a counceling situation with your mind completely open. I went to counceling in college for a year after my best friends death. On some days it was the only thing that motivated me to get out of bed. It is always nice to have a nuetral person in your life to tell you what they think. I also was recommended a couple of books that really opened my eyes and helped my whole outlook on life. At the time I loved my councelor... I don't need it now, but couldnt imagine redoing that time without one. Books Joel Osteen "Your Best Life Now" the other book you may have heard of its called "Purpose Driven Life" They are both great. Good luck on what you decide to do.

i've been in therapy for depression. It kinda worked, but i don't think it mad a hudge difference. My step father went to therapy because he was a parially abusive alchohol(meaning he didn't always burst out into a temper tentrum or if he did he didn't always hit and not overly agressivly) Therapy changed him and our lives. So i say it does work, but more so for physical adicttions then emotional situations. You must discover yourself to truely make yourself happy, no one can do it for you they can only help you. For depression i say therapy is one of the last resorts.

I have. I dunno if it works. I only went for a while. My counsellor would ask me questions about myself, and I didn't even know the answers because I don't know myself as well as I thought. In the end it felt like the counselling wasn't for me, but for the person I created when I talked to her. I would recommend trying it, in your situation it could be helpful and worthwhile. In my case, I was molested and when I told the cops, they set me up with a counsellor. It happened years ago, and I adjusted on my own.

It depends on the therapist, try a christian one but just make sure they are not throwing the bible at you with every comment.
Just like AA I have been to some pretty wacked out AA meetings before.
It is all about finding the right one.

i have. it depends on why you are going there. If it is for something minor, you'll come to find that they're not much help. mainly, they are someone to talk and vent to. You can give them the whole story and not worry about them spreading it to others or about them having a preconceived notion about the person you're mad at, angry with, having problems with etc... Overall, I've found that they are good to go to to get everything out and to get an outside opinion! Hope this helps

I may be bias on this but yes it works - if you work on your issues! I was a therapist for sixteen years. I have also been to therapists to deal with depression and anxiety. The work is all in your court - the therapist is your coach and cheerleader!
