4(x^2 - 2x + 3)
the equation can't be factored anymore because the last number the 3 must be positive and the 2 must be negative. A negative 3 and a postive 1 will give you negative 2 but not postive 3

4x^2 - 8x + 12 is divisible by 4. So, 4 is the first factor.

Dividing by 4, we get

x^2 - 2x + 3, which can be written as x^2 - 2x + 1 + 2 and which can be written as

(x - 1)^2 + 2

So, we can write the factors as

4[(x - 1)^2 + 2]

4(x^2 - 2x + 3)
