Humans are animals. Humans are classified as follows:
Vertebrates (have a backbone)
Chordates (special backbone structure in early fetal stage)
Mammals (body hair, bear live young, lactate, more)
Primates (opposable thumb, primarily)
Homonids (Bipedal - walk with two legs)
Homo (genus)
Sapiens (species)
Humans can reason, which is the key characteristic which separates humans from other creatures. Some other creatures have been shown to reason; but no other species can solve highly complex problems or comprehend cause versus effect quite as quickly as humans. Humans are also thought to have other complex thinking processes, such as extensively diverse language. Humans are social; they spend a good deal of time raising their young (longer than any other species). Humans share other characteristics with other creatures; for example, humans conduct war and war is seen in chimpanzees.
Humans demonstrate emotions, but they are not alone in this. Other apes, such as gorillas, orangutans, bonobos and chimps as well as other primates (macaques, baboons etc,) but some say even dogs, wolves, orca and dolphins appear to clearly show emotions.
Humans also can demonstration mental illness; this is also seen in various animals also. There are many ways in which we are very much like other animals species. We are not the clearly "superior" species we think we are.

A hairless chimpanzee. Or maybe chimpanzees would be hairy humans. Or, depending upon the nature of the observer, dinner.
