Few days ago my car started acting weird as if it was running out of fuel when I accelerate. It hesitates from time to time at any speed. Also, the engine light was on. So, because it was close, I went to Kwik Kar Auto service to get it checked, and they told me that cylinder 7 misfire was the cause. I was told that I need to replace Spark Plug and ignition boots. They gave me service estimate at $120 labor fees and $101 parts fees. First of all, could cylinder 7 misfire be the cause of the problem I am having on my car? Second, If thats the cause,is it right to replace the Spark Plug and ignition boots? Finally, are the fees, both labor and parts, market price?

I had the same problem with #6 plug on a Ford truck. The plug and coil was replaced under warranty, but the total came to over a $100. and this was a few years ago. So it is line with a dealer.

Before everyone goes off saying you can do it yourself and you can do it cheaper, what year and type of vehicle are we talking about here? Some of the newer models require a lot just to get to the plugs. Especially some of the newer trucks.

There you go, your probably being charged 1 hour diagnostic time, 1 hour labor for changing the parts and you probably have a technician that gets those wires from the dealer because he is smart enough to know the aftermarket ford wires that are made with boots don't fit well and often pop off.
Sounds like a very fair price.

One spark plug mis-firing will not cause your car to hesitate. It will cause it to lose some power and you can feel it jerking somewhat, especially upon acceleration.

The fees they are charging are terribly out of line. You can buy a plug for a couple of dollars and put it in your self or get a friend that knows how to do it. The ignition boots? I have no idea why they want to replace those. I would suggest that you got to a auto parts store and buy a new set of plug wires for around $30. and put them on or better get a knowledgeable friend to do it. WARNING!!!!!! IF you decide to change your spark plug wires, CHANGE "ONE" WIRE AT A TIME!!!! If you don't you will get them crossed up. So, for around $35. you can do the same job as they want to do for $221. Good luck. Pops

I had a similar issue with my car. I brought it to a dealer who changed my spark plugs and cylinder to the tune of nearly $400! I was told my check engine light was on because of an oxygen sensor. So I got that fixed too. Unfortunately, the light was still on! (Now it's the catalytic converter that I need to change.) Long story short, I ended up having to replace my engine after it died on me (yes after I put out the initial 400 bucks that was a waste).

Yes, I believe that if this place is reputable, replacing the parts will solve your problem. The price is competitive; sounds about right, but I don't know where you live. But I suggest that perhaps you get a second opinion to confirm that these issues are all that need to be addressed in your car and not something else.

Good luck!

yea, if you have a plug cutting out with you, then it wouldnt accelerate too good. my god you can buy a brand new set of wires and plugs for that much and still have money left.if you know about cars, just go and get the plugs and wires and put them on yourself.
