No one really seems to get upset about racism towards white people- why isn't it considered as important as racism towards minorities?

Jenna Ray- Why can't I compare the two? Racism is racism, isn't it? Or are you suggesting that its okay to be racist towards white people, but not towards anyone else?

By intelligent people it is wrong. There is no excuse for racism not matter who it's directed to. White, Blacks, Asians, Gay's Heterosexual, physically disabled, Learning disabled, developmentally disabled, psychotically disabled, or any thing Else that might make one person slightly different from anyone else. Prejudice is cause by a fear of the unknown no matter what the unknown is. Prejudice is something that is learned and when learned hard to unlearned. I would hope that any person with any sense knows that racism or prejudice is wrong because it's based on fear and not reality.
I am a Black woman, with a learning disability and a physical disability. I have two bi-racial children and I've seen or heard almost all of the excuses for racism and prejudice that one can come up with. None of it makes any sense to me and it never will.

If you watch tv interview news sometimes, alot of people who are racist and a minority will say, they can't be racist or prejudice because they are not in power. But being prejudice just means judging people before hand, and it doesn't matter because every race does it.

Also, I saw a commercial for a movie with an african american cast, and the woman said her name was Julia or something, and the little girl said "ain't that a white girl's name." I don't know, is it a preoccupation with races? I know I don't sit around constantly inflicting race into every mundane situation. I'm not trying to be offensive, I'm just wondering.

I've never felt ashamed of being white, mainly because I've grown up with a different attitude towards racism. Where I've grown up, I've felt more like I'm in the ethnic minority, because there are scores of black people who only stick with black people or asians who shun anyone who is not asian. Although there are plenty of scummy white people as well (chavs) who don't like well-educated people. I don't like racism, its an ugly thing, but whites are not the only people responsible for racism - the foreigners can be just as bad, sticking with their own kind and making up their own rules and messing with the country's laws. Of course there are a lot of decent people of all kinds of origins. I've got plenty of friends of various nationalities, but its the individuals who I respect, I don't suck up to their entire nationality, which it seems like you're doing (no offense intended, just an observation). No one race is perfect.

I personally find racism and racist comments towards anyone offensive. However, non-whites have generally been the ones most negatively affected by racism economically, socially, etc....

Because white people are usually the ones generalizing and using their race as the power, The jews get paid for the holocust but the blacks get welfare for slavery. Hispanics and Chinesse get more respect in the white community than a black as long as their skin is lite and hair is fine your Okay cause we have Black people here that should be the pledge of legence

Caucasians weren't enslaved for over 300 years. But racist comments should be taken seriously no matter who the victim is.

BS double standard....It's the same thing as when someone white is viciously killed by a non-white it's never thought of as a "hate crime" but when the reverse occurs then all the media screams hate and racism...It's all hatred no matter who is doing it and it needs to stop...

In total seriousness, white people have a history of pillaging countries and invading other people. So when minorities insult white people its considered justified as retaliation for historically being treated unjustly.

When white people insult others, they incite connotations of dominance over them.

I have noticed this in my area also. In my school, caucasians can't say any derogatory comment about african americans or hispanics without getting jumped or in big trouble. If an african american or hispanic said something about a caucasian, no one would care! (No offence to ANYONE!) I have no idea why it happens though....
