I have a 6.5 year old female netherland dwarf rabbit, Jellybean, and she is not spayed. When i was holding her I saw her pee blood. I called the vet and they told me she should be fine since it only happened once, but i am still worried.

Are you sure it was blood? Something as simple as a change in diet, like a carrot, can change the color of a bunny's urine and make it look like they are passing blood. (This happened to my friend while she was tending my bun while I was out of the country.) When in actuality, it's the enzymes in the food. Watch her for a day...monitor her food...if it remains red..get her to the vet, better to be safe than sorry

Clean the litter box and use litter that isnt red at all. If she does it again call the vet. If they dont want to see her you need a new vet. Your rabbit is on the older side and needs special vet care. I reccomend a check up every 6 months to a year.

NO THIS IS DEFINATELY NOT NORMAL!!! take your rabbit to the vet asap! as you can imagine a tiny animal such as a rabbit doesnt have a large blood volume, so even losing a small amount of blood can make them very sick.

She's probably fine as long as it isn't on-going every time she has peed since ... if you feed her a lot of carrots at a given interval (more than usual) or if there is dye in her food or treats, then this may color the urine dark, but it is not necessarily blood.

Rabbits can have a red colored urine (porphyrin pigmented) that is normal. They can also have uterine cancers, polyps, cystitis, kidney problems, bladder stones, and other problems. A vet needs to check a urine sample and maybe do xrays or other tests to determine if there is something wrong or not.

Give your rabbit some Hydrangea. It will cure and clear up the blood. It also works in older rabbits. It's a herbal remedy to get rid of them. Go here for more info : http://www.theherbsplace.com/Hydrangea_p_414.html

and here, look at first paragraph:

Rabbits don't necessarily have blood in the urine, sometimes they have it normally, but if you are absolutely sure it's blood, use Hydrangea.

i would be concerned, she could either have a bladderstone or shes in heat. i hope shes in heat (her period) since you said she wasnt spayed this is what i suspect could be the problem. to ease your fears, ttake her back to your vet and ask him/or her to check her out.i had guinea pigs (the female ones) do this and it was almost always a bladderstone.i think it could be that your rabbit is in heat.
