According to this link, treatment is typically started when levels are between 12 and 18. So, it's just a choice of the physician to wait to see if it goes down by itself.
My suggestion is to make sure that the baby is drinking more than enough to get his system to clear. While they aren't recommending sun exposure, due to sunburn, if you aren't dumb about it, it wouldn't hurt.

Yes that is high. I believe when they reach 16 or 17 they have to go to the hospital to be under the UV light.
If you want to get rid of the jaundice, you need to take your baby outside and in the sun. Do it when it's not to hot but the sun is out. Also you can lay your baby on a blanket in the house by a window that the sun comes in to. That will help also. My son had jaundice also. His eyes were a little yellow. It helps. Also a doctor will tell you breast feeding will also help the baby get rid of it.
Good luck.

hope your baby is still in the hospital because I thought they could not release a baby with jaundice till it was safe. A nurse should be checking up on your baby at home after they release is done. This is how it worked for my son after a 10 days in the hospital under the light thing and blood test. God Bless

Yes it is high. If I remember correctly, my son's was like 10 or 12 and he had to stay in the hospital for a week after he was born so he could stay under the lights.

my son has jaundice also... but his was only 11 and the doctor treated him... Doctor told me that if it was higher then 15 then that is something you need to worry about... according to my doctor, 15.3 is high and should be treated... if your doctor is not worry then maybe you should get a second opinion.... good luck

My son's went up to 20 and he is perfect!! However, he was under the light for the first week of his life.Jaundice really is common and a lot of times works itself out.

If it is too high her doctor will check her for Kidney Reflux. If this is what she has she will have to be on medication for it for at least 6 months. My friend's daughter had to be on it until she was a year-old.
