J. M. Barrie wrote Peter Pan. Lewis Carroll wrote Alice in Wonderland. Hans Christian Andersen wrote many great stories, some of which Walt Disney got his grubby claws in and ruined, by changing the outcome into some gay lavender express bullshit. The Little Mermaid is a case in point. Walt Disney also utterly ruined Pinnochio, by Carlo Collodi. In the Disney version, the horrible little cricket vermin that was such anathema to Pinnochio is some friendly little chap who is basically an atheist, if you can believe that. But what can you say about some clown who sent donations to Hitler in the thirties except that he MUST have been an atheist. Additionally, I'm sure there are several stories that were collected (not written by) Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, in the late 18th century that Disney took especial pleasure in twisting the meaning into some marketable piece of tripe. I suppose we can be thankful he didn't get his greasy meathooks on the new testament. If he did, Jesus would have probably escaped the cross and crucified Pontius Pilate and the entire Roman Senate instead, and then he would have gone off to run a vineyard or something and live happily ever after. Hope this helps.

"The Killer Angels" by Micheal Shaara was the basis for the for the 1993 movie "Gettysburg."
"Blue-eyed Child of Fortune: The Civil War Letters of Colonel Robert Gould Shaw" edited by Russell Duncan served as the basis for the 1989 movie "Glory." Of intrest her is the fact that this book is non-fiction.
Numerous movies (not just the obvious ones) are supposed to be based off of Shakespear's plays. "Ten Things I Hate About You" is an example as it's supposed to be a modern remake of his "The Taming of the Shrew."

High Fidelity--Starring John Cusack with costars (not limited to) Jack Black, Lisa Bonet (The Cosby Show), Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Joan Cusack. Based off the novel, High Fidelity by Nick Hornby.
Quote: "What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss. Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?"
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest--Starring Jack Nicholson and based off the book by Ken Kesey tittled One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
Interesting fact--When Kesey wrote the book "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" he was on LSD, so it is one crazy book.
Fight Club--Starring Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, Meat Loaf, and many others. Based off the novel by Chuck Palahniuk.
Tag Line: "How much can you know about yourself if you've never been in a fight?"
Not a lot of people know those movies were all first a book. I could go on and on on movies based off books, but I'll leave you with these three, the amazing and outstanding.
