1969 dodge charger, 383 mag w/ a 600cfm carb and 727tf. turns over, so not seized...there is spark, took of valve cover and lifters are lifting so no broken timing chain ... if i broke a rod or if i broke a valve or something one of the cylinders would still fire, only thing i can think of is the carb.. i guess i had a back fire of two cause there was some soot in my carb.. i took it apart and looked all threww it.. nothing that i could see was ruined.. took power valve out and am 99% sure it is still fine and checked with the old mouth trick i am gettin fuel but there is a clay looking material in my bowl and there was some in my old filter, is that rust from the tank?... any suggestions..thanks..mabe i overlooked something

did you check the ballast resister on the firewall?what kind of fire are you getting, is it blue or yellow?, blue is hotter then yellow, what i would do is get some solvent and let the carb. sit in it overnight and then clean it up and put a kit in it.

Friend had same problem with Dodge Polaris police intercepter with 440. We went through the carb and fuel system, tuned it up, timed it, still wouldnt start, come to find out the gear on the bottom of the distributor cap had sheared its pin and was twisting on the shaft, 50 cent part solved 800 dollars of pain.

I will be honest you have me stumped on this one,,, First let me ask this weird question, Do you have any people who would love to get even with you? Reason I ask is that the clay substance in your bowl could be dirt/rust but I also know that when sugar hits the fuel it thickens and turns a brownish color.
Do not get nervous quickly I am Just asking, Like I said it could be rust/dirt but it could also be sugar. Best way to check is to go to your gas cap and very closely check for any fine white dust around your filler pipe or just inside it.Outside for that ???

You did not say what led as much as this, yet in the past while, a replaced into rebuilding the old form 318 engine in my 1960 sidestep %. up. Had labored all day Saturday and with the aid of Sunday afternoon replaced into very drained. Time to fireside it up and have been given not something yet lower back fire. a buddy got here visiting, took a million look and advised me, "stupid..you have have been given the firing order backward on the distributor cap." Did you have the wires off the cap?

Water may have accumulated in the gas tank and the water sits on top. There are additives to resolve the problem. How long has the gas been in the tank ? After a few month it will start to decompose.

Check your distributor pin. Older model dodges have a reputation for sheering the dist pin.
