If I forget and power down the window, I have to pull it back up by hand. The plastic film on window has mechanical scratches. How do I properly remove the door panel to see what's happened? This is a Saturn.

Thanks, Pops, but I think it must be a mechanical problem due to the sweeping scratches on the inside film of the window and also because the window is loose and easy to pull up by hand. But I really am not basing this on prior experience with the power windows of Saturns, LOL!

I do appreciate all input, because I really don't have any idea. I will check the fuses. Would it be a separate fuse that makes it go down (which it does do under power) and up (which it does not do under power)?

Check the switch first. Obviously you have power to the switch because the "down" circuit is working. The plastic film is not factory, so the scratching could be the downside of tinting your windows.
Also, check if the window seems to go down slowly, makes any unusual noises or movements as it goes down, before opening the side panel looking for mechanical problems.

this is usualy a switch problem, either the switch at the effected window or the master switch in the drivers door or console it could also be the wiring from the switch to the motor. to test remove switch at effected door. this will require the use of a pick or small screw driver and pop switch out of door panel. disconect the switch from the wireing, then use a multi meter to test the plug and find the 12 volt lead at the door there should only be three wires. one 12 volt and the other two are for up and down, take a piece of wire and jump from the 12 volt lead to one of the others, the window should go up or down, then test the other lead if the window goes up and down then one of the switches is bad, test the door switch first since its out all ready, useing the multi meter switch to continuityconect one lead to the 12 volt pin and the other to one of the otther pins operate switchif you have continuity in one position or the other move test lead over to the other pin and test again, if you have continuity at both positions, the door switch is good and the master has failed, if you don't have continuity in both positions the door switch is bad, replace bad swiths and test again window should move up and down

Check your fuses and/or circuit breakers. By all back windows doing that it may be the power to them. Each back window has its own up/down switch so evidently no power is getting to either of these two switches. Pops

Buy a repair manual for your car. Chilton's or Haynes. It should have the instructions and pictures to help you. If the window will go down, and not up it may be a broken wire going to the motor. good luck
