I am going to start high school in the fall this year and I am very excited. The orchestra at my school, from what I hear, is not that old, fairly new. So it might be looking for anybody. But how many years of experience would you need on an instrument to join on average? I know some instruments probably require more than others, so please try to list as many as you can. Thank you.

While I think that most of the people in my high school orchestra had somewhere from 3 to 6 years of experience by the time they got to high school, it was less about experience than it was about capability. If you could pass the audition, you were in.

Could depend on what you play. If there is a shortage of a certain instrument, that could get you in. I had two years of violin and could join, but it didn't fit my schedule. I was also in concert band, so wasn't too upset. Good luck!
