I posted a wig on craigslist. Lacefront, never worn. Lady conatcted me from another state asking if i would consider shipping, take paypal, and drop the price by $25. I aggreed. After the fact learned paypal charges for transaction so i only made $118, down from the $150 i posted the wig for. I emailed the lady pics of the wig, exact measurements, gave here the website I had purchased the wig from and everything. She wanted the wig. Once shipped she emails me saying it is longer than what she expected and does not fit the way she would like and that she is sorry but can't keep the wig and wants a refund. Am I obligated to refund her money? I never said it was a final sale, but i also never said I would give refund. Plus , I went out of my way to get her this wig, i was only looking for a local sale. I originally paid $400 for this wig and never wore it and she got it for only $125. She got the better end of the deal. So do i legally owe her a refund?

You are not legally obligated to refund her any money, doesn't matter if you didn't put that on your add. Craigslist warns sellers and buyers how to avoid "scams" and one of try to keep the selling local, and do not accept or give payments over money gram or pay pal, since this are not safe. You gave her the measurements and all the information possible, she bought it with knowledge of this. Tell her that you are sorry but this was a final sale, but sounds like she is going to put a complain on either pay pal or craigslist. I don't know how pay pal works but if there is a way that she can put a stop payment on that ...you'll be fried, hopefully then she can return the wig. Craigslist is a nice website they have warnings to protect you and the buyer, next time try to keep it local, just take cash and do not mail the product (this most likely is a scam).

As you didn't list "all sales final" or "no refunds" or if you didn't list "as is" in your posting, you may wish to err on the side of caution and offer to refund her money MINUS the amount it cost for you to ship it and the transaction fee, citing that you paid $400 for the wig and have already taken loss and sold it to her for $25 less than what you asked for it, and highly recommend that she ship it back to you insured mail with a return receipt at her own expense and upon receipt, credit her account back the $118 (then relist the wig for the original amount that your requested..but I would wash it first in case she tried it on without a wig cap).
Keep copies of all correspondence to and from her if you have not already.
See if she accepts or offers a counter-offer that you can live with. If not, inform her that you have done everything you can to accommodate her, but you just can't afford to lose anymore money than you already have and if she feel the need, she should pursue action in Small Claims Court.
If she chooses to do so, you stand a better chance of winning or having to pay less in exchange for the wig as you have tried to come to a solution that does not require litigation.
I have chosen this over litigation as both a buyer and a seller and it has always worked out better for both parties involved and I have even gotten postive rating for being an accommodating seller and going above and beyond what they have expected by offering to be be fair with them, but drawing the line when they have not been fair with me. Some people just try to see how far they can push you, but once you are firm but fair with them, they will accept a reasonable settlement or solution to the matter.

To avoid coming off as a deadbeat seller you should graciously accept the return and refund the money. It is a risk of doing this sort of business. Have you ever bought anything by mail order and after receiving it found it was not what you expected? What happened after that is more important than that one sale. If a seller sticks it to a customer, justified or not, the customer has a bad feeling, and alienating customers is never a good idea if you ever might be selling anything else again.

No, you don't owe her a refund. It sounds like you were very straightforward and honest, with pictures and measurements. This is a chance we take when we buy online. There was no contract, so you're not bound in any way.
Kind of a learning lesson for both of you.

No, but she will probably go to Paypal and complain and
then they will deduct the money from your account.
I would take my chances, tell her what you paid for it
and how much you paid in fees and shipping, worst
case, I would deduct those fees from the refund and
would not even consider a refund until you have the
wig back in your hands.

Nope, unless there was a written agreement you owe her nothing... you got the money and she got the wig, as long as those were the only terms of the deal, the deal's done...

Tough crap for her I think. If you want to be able to do returns, you buy from an online store that does that kind of business. Next time i hope she has learned how to buy wigs. I have had my own experience - and was always able to return.

I have no idea. Does Craigslist has any by-laws. We all live and learn, so next time maybe you have to have a no refund policy. What can she do if you don't take the return. Follow your heart.

No. If she doesn't want it, let her resale it. Who knows what she's done with that wig while it was in her hands. Just tell her you did not misrepresent the wig and it is hers now.
