What was it? I sent a gang of clothes and shoes to the Goodwill...and the preacher hits me up evertime I see him.

I live in Santa Monica, California, known as--and I'm proud of it--"The People's Republic of Santa Monica." (I say this because whole vans of people without homes are dropped here--brought by the Beverly Hills police, the West Hollywood Sheriff's Department, the West L.A. police; they know we take care of people, people their residents don't want to see on their streets. Ugh!)

The last time was this afternoon, outside the post office, when I dropped some money in the coffee cup of a sweet, smiling man. A few hours before that, I honked at a light, so that a vet holding a card could make his way to my car for some cash.

It's an everyday, everyday blessing, this gift of giving.

And then there are the "annuals": ACLU, Southern Poverty Law Center, Alliance for Human Research Protection, Africa Action, Americans for Democratic Action, United Farm Workers, Motion Picture Fund, Defenders of Wildlife, and on....

Today.....there was a lady outside the grocery store collecting for her church and I gave her all the change I had in my pocket.

But I donate all year to the American Red Cross as a Disaster Volunteer (I'm a Disaster Training Instructor and Disaster Shelter Manager) and I am also a Family Services Caseworker and carry the pager at least one week a month all year. I also donate clothes and household items to the local Salvation Army.

I am a fundraiser at a hospital so I know how important donating is. I do not have the money to donate a lot, but i donate small amounts often. I gave $25 a few weeks ago to our LoveLine fund for people with cancer who can't afford to pay bills since they are not currently working. With all the things I see in my job, I can't imagine NOT donating to charity. Some people (or animals) are just down on their luck and it is up to us to pull them up so they can help us if we ever need it.

a few times a year i send $25 to the best friends animal sanctuary (best friends network) it's a no-kill animal shelter - they rescue animals and rehabilitate them. if i had more money,i'd love to send more because they are a wonderful organization - i think we should do all we can to help unfortunate animals because they cannot help themselves. that's my weak spot - i don't care for people too much, but i'll do anything to help animals =) i also donate my change or a dollar or two each time i see a "jar" for the local humane society.

that preacher reminds me of the one on "Friday" for some reason - lol. that's the first think i thought of,i think bernie mac played him.....hehe

Today...I donate every chance I can. If I have it to give and someone really needs it then I will help the best I can. I always give to goodwill, to my church, military groups, anybody that approaches me in the parking lot at the store...=)
