I want to send a good book to someone that is in jail. What do you recommend? Besides the porn......that has already been ordered.

~Please don't send the penal code or criminal procedure law. There is nothing quite as ignorant as a jailhouse lawyer.

"You Are Going To Prison" by Jim Hogshire might be a good one, but it would probably be a better read before doing the deed that is going to put you behind the wall.

Crime & Punishment. Just Kidding! But classics are a good choice. Otherwise, it's personal taste: mysteries? thrillers? Generally good reads: The DaVinci Code, Angels & Demons, then there's an older one by Dan Brown (before he did DaVinci) that's really good. John Case has some excellent novels out there. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is fabulous. Even if your friend has already read it, it's such a great story it's worth reading again!

Mein Kampf might do it.

Sorry, I had to.

Long books are good since you have a lot of time on your hands. But anything the person is interested in will do. Harry Potter books are a good suggestion since they are long. You can't go wrong with some classics. Maybe a jokebook or two.

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas (about revenge and a prison break)

Different Seasons by Stephen King (contains Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, another prison break)

Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky (very long psychological novel about a murderer)

Discipline and Punish by Michel Foucault (history and philosophy of the birth of the penitentiary system)

No books about jail...that's just too cliche. Is it a guy or girl? Guy: maybe something like the Hell's Angels diaries (my brother likes it)
Girl: any chick lit i guess...

Unfortunately you are not allowed to take books to people in jail. You are not allowed to take them anything. You can place money in their account and they can purchase what they want. I am not sure if they can purchase books, but they can certainly check them out of the prison library.
