Okay so me and one of my best friends are going on a "roadtrip" not exactly because we both have very tight work schedules. Basically we are going for one day on a sunday. We can basically go anywhere in New York state. We don't want more then a 3-4 hour drive(We're from Central NY). So we are basically looking for a daytrip.

We are not looking for beaches and we've gone to Lake George a ton of time, which if anyone is wondering is a great vacation spot, but we are looking for something new and exciting. We went to Philadelphia together a few years ago and had an amazing time. We are looking for something like that. If anyone has any good idea's I would love to hear them Thanks.

Old Forge in the Adirondacks
1,000 Islands
Cooperstown (if you're into baseball)
Almost anywhere in the Finger Lakes Region
Darien Lake theme Park between Roch. & Buff.
Watkins Glenn at south end of Seneca Lake.
(walking the gorge is a MUST for Watkins Glenn.)
Do a self-tour for the wine country region in the Finger Lakes
Boat tour on the Erie Canal in many towns along the canal.
Rochester is amazing with the Genesee River Gorge, Upper Falls, and great night-life if you stay over. Lots a festivals during the summer.

You said upstate in your question but then said anywhere in New York... I would go to see a Yankee game... yankees.com
and the Bronx Zoo. I don't know what your interests are but in the Hudson Valley you could go to the Brotherhood Winery in Washingtonville.... brotherhoodwinery.net. You could take a cruise on the Pride of The Hudson..prideofthehudson.com.
Visit the storm king art center.. stormking.org.
If you were going to go to NYC ..(I would) options include:
Madame Tussauds Wax Museum... nycwax.com
Museum of Natural History.... amn.org
Guggenheim Museum.... guggenheim.org
Museum of Modern Art.... moma.org
Sightseeing Cruise ...nywaterway.com
Or if you just wanted something casual..just walk around Manhattan ...shop and have a nice lunch.
Hope you have a fun trip and hope this helped.

I am not sure where in central NY you are from but I grew up in NY State and went to college there too.

I think some if it depends on what you want to do. You mention Philadelphia (my current hometown) but that is a fairly big city so I am not sure if you want the city or the country.

If you want the city, Rochester is a good a place to start. I also lived near Binghamton which is a great place but is a little smaller and laid back.

If you want to go to more of a country setting, I would encourage you so go to places along the St. Lawrence River. There are a lot of small but beautiful areas along there.

Spend the day in Woodstock and get a bit of the hippy feeling. Lotsa good food, art galleries, and shopping. Still some new and leftover hippies, too. And if you get bored, then just a short trip down Rt 28 will land you in the heart of the catskills where you can innertube the Esopus or go horseback riding.

History buffs would love FDRoosevelt's home in Hyde Park. Nature lovers would love Howe's caverns or a hike through the Catskills.

I cannot believe you have never visited Cooperstown, but perhaps you have. Not only will you find the Baseball Hall of Fame there, but they also have a real neat farmer's museum. The town itself is quite picturesque. Have you ever been to Niagara Falls?
