What more of person touch...like someone does this craft and could be insight.

its a lot of work!! you do not paint the glass (unless you are firing it at 1600F degrees to stain it yourself)
the colored glass is colored with metal oxides so they never fade

spectrum is a great stained glass brand, not expensive and nice colors and textures- they have a dealer finder on their site so you can find where to buy it. Figure $3-$9 average square foot

You can use just about any kind of glass. Some stores that sell supplies also offer classes . And of course they expect you to buy your equipment and supplies from them.
A great hobby, but can be expensive.
