Don't even worry about that, just because you're black doesn't mean you won't have people of your own "race" hating on you. I'm a black American from the South, and down here WE are our own worse enemies. You're only 17, although those ignorant people who call you that name are probably jealous or feel like your trying to be "white", you shouldn't worry about it. Take it from me, life is way to short to worry about what ignorant people think about you. I'm more concerned with your educational plans after high school, make sure you go to college (if that's for you) Because there's a lot of opportunity out there for a black person who wants to learn. (For any person really in America).

Its probably almost a feeling of betrayal ( like maybe you feel that you're better than them) which I'm sure isn't true and thats where the ignorance is kicking in. My advice is to hold your head up high and ignore the petty comments from the peanut gallery be proud that you aren't a walking stero-type like so many of us are today. And the problem with our society is that we preach tolerance instead teaching acceptance.

Do not take to heart the talk of an ignorant bigot. I am sure you are intelligent and speak very well. Its gang like behavior that encourages gang like style of talking for white black and asian gangs. For the everyday you and me we all pretty well speak the same. Alittle different accents from various areas that we live in other then that no big deal. If you were called an oreo ignore that but answer them,,yes I have been told I am a sweet cute cookie and thank you for that compliment.

Sugar people who would call you "oreo" are ignorant.
Proper speach is a goal everyone should strive forl
Recently on a TV game show an African American was complimented on his very distinctive voice. It was commented that he would make an excellent Radio/Television announcer. He publically thanked his mother for constantly correting his "ghetto" accent.
Do not be ashamed of how you speak. You will go farther with proper speach than the typical African American dialect.
Be proud that you know how to speak!
Look at Oprah. Hallie Barry..... Denzel Washington.... etc. Do they have that slang accent? I think not!

I've been called that my whole life. It never really bothered me except one day; I broke down because someone referred to me as one when I was already dealing with other personal issues. In the end, people are making fun of you for not being ghetto. It's jealousy; they know you're going to be more acceptable to society. You will get hired for the job over the ghetto applicant who can't speak well, can't demonstrate good manners, and can't show literacy in their work. They try to feel superior now because they know in ten years it will be very different. Stay who you are. You are considered a very unique black person. Don't be afraid to be a proper person.

I'm sorry you have to go through that. You are who you are and deserve to be respected just for that. Stay strong and just be proud of who you are, most of the black girl stereotype is all just cultural isn't it? I have to say though, in a job interview if the candidate uses a lot of slang or is inarticulate doesn't it reflects poorly on the opinion of them. Not from a racial point of view at all, but from an educational point of view. Proper use of language isn't cultural and if you can't put proper sentences together, whether your white, black, brown, red or blue it makes you look uneducated and not that bright. If they have to make a decision on who to hire and who will represent the company aren't they going to take that into consideration? Just food for thought, in society and depending upon what you want to do with your life, your better off with just staying true to yourself.

There is absolutely no excuse for someone to act or say anything racist to you!! Especially in this day and age. And believe me just because the comment is coming from someone of your OWN race it is still a mean remark and should not be tolerated. It is still slander and racist. And it is ignorant, because people who make stupid off hand comments prove that they are incapable of forming an intelligent word or sentence. If these people want to behave in this manor, then try to look beyond them and find friends and acquaintances worthy of your time and presence.

As a black male... when I was young, I was being called something similar. They were people that said that I was talking "white", I went to a Catholic school, i talk proper english, even my mature friend's daughter said that I have talked like "Carlton Banks". Do not let them get to you... Some people that saids that are mostly intimidated that the more levels you reach, the more jealousy that brings to those that insults people like you.

Reflect on it.
But -- if this is wholly due to the way you talk as you do intimate here, then I can say this: my 'take' is to 'leave.'
By leave I mean, go stretch out and come to know others, all cultures, that you can blend their frequencies and signatures. Come to know their accents, dialectals, feelings, languages, and dialects. Go to some foreign country and get to know what good is.
Do not narrow yourself to the same parochial views of just a handful of people. The world spins upon the fitness of some 6 plus billion people. Get a sense of this magnitude first, then resolve to what 'your' take on it is or shall be. That's all.

it is ignorance to call some one an oreo. but it comes from jealousy. keep going the way you are, learn everything you can, and get back at them by being successful. if you become what you want to be, doctor, lawyer, engineer, farmer, what ever, and work to be the best in that field, THAT is your revenge. what they dont realize is that in order to succeed you have to speak well. if you go in to an interview for an executive position, and you use ghetto slang, you likely wont get the job.stay the course young lady.
