It could be argued, yes, but a WHOLE LOT SLOWER.
There are researchers who believe the world was "pollinated" with life, or amino acids (life's building blocks) by meteorites. The theory gained credence when amino acids were discovered on a recovered meteorite. One example:

But, NO, I would not look at the movie "Evoloution" as a great model of how life on earth started, certainly NOT how the universe started.
Funny movie though; I loved the 2 fat guys who knew about the chemical compound in dandruff shampoo.

Nobody knows how the universe started. The scientific community will tell you their theories are how it happened, but they are really guessing. What they call theories are postulates, guesses, proposals, from which they begin their investigations on the basis that they are true. It is the worst kind of scientific investigation and they get very angry and intimidating when challenged - especially by Creationists.
They see Creationism as religion competing with the religion of Evolution. The Creationists don't know how either, just Who. The Evolutionists don't know how and refuse to acknowledge that there could be a Who.
In the mean time most people believe the fantasies that they see in the movies and on TV to be based of factual information and they are mostly not. They are stories produced to entertain. That is how the industry makes a living and they are very good at telling ridiculous stories.
