We have been to Clare Valley. It is very nice especially now as it is winter and everything is green. There are some nice wineries to visit. Not much entertainment but a nice relaxing country town. There are some nice restaurants to eat at. Not sure about places to stay. We stayed just out of Clare at Second Valley but I wouldnt recommend that particular cottage as it was a bit run down, no TV etc (It was very relaxing though)

The Clare Valley wineries make excellent wines, particularly some of the whites. The Sevenhill monastery and winery is famous. The valley is a relaxing place to visit with many small country villages.
