The "Do Not Call" list will soon be offered in Canada, and I would like to take advantage of it to block myself from telemarketers. I still want to receive calls from businesses and services who I am already a customer with (my phone company, my bank, etc.). Is there a way to allow calls from those companies, or will they be disallowed because I would be on the list?

That's exactly how the one in America is set up. The people with whom you conduct business may still call you while others may not. Charities and non profit orgs. can also still call you but you can ask them not to call you anymore and they have to stop calling you. It's basically just to stop all of the telemarketers from calling.

Chances are, they will probably be more than happy to keep calling you. In addition to the do not call list, most companies keep a list of their own. If you want their business they are not going to turn you away. If you really don't want their business though, their is one sure fire way to get blacklisted. Threaten to call your lawyer. It may sound cheesy, but these are the magic words to make sure a company will never call you again.

The do - not - call is for 'unsolicted calls' .
Your regular people can always call .
Also non profits and fundraisers can still call in the US .
But it is now kind of useless as the 'boiler room salesmen' it is suppose to stop ,
now use untraceable 800 numbers to sidestep the plan .

In America, those companies that you already have business relationship with can still call you, i.e. your bank or your telephone company.
