Hot because it rinses grease easier then cold water.

Hot. It seems to dissolve both grease and soap better than cold, leaving the dishes cleaner, and they dry in no time. Cold might save energy, but you risk cracking something fragile that's just come out of hot water.
What I do is start with only an inch or less of water in the pan, and dribble the hot tap water into it to rinse as I wash. When I'm finished, the water level in the pan is no higher than most people start with, so I don't feel I'm an energy 'hog'.

I use hot for a few different reasons:
Last chance to sanitize the dishes. If I wanted to sanitize in cold water, I have to add something to it which may leave residue on the dishes, and isn't as eco-friendly as simply using a little hot water even if it uses energy to warm the water.
It also cuts residue from dishsoap, and it helps the dishes dry faster.
I get around the waste issue of using hot water by treating it respectfully. I plug the sink to start collecting it, then if I accumulate enough to use that before I'm done, I can shut the water off. Then I use the hot rinse water with a little cleaner to clean counters and stovetop, I may even mop with it. So I get a lot of mileage out of the hot water.

Wash and rinse in hot. Everything comes off easier in hot water. Yes it saves energy to use cold but saves water to use hot. Dishes also dry faster when then are rinsed in hot water reducing, if not eliminating water spots.

Wash in hot water...then cold onthe rinse, but I add about 3 or 4 drops of bleach to the rinse water..which will not hurt u in this amount..the dishes are already sterilized from the washing..and to rinse soap off with cold water ..to rinse soap off with hot water , hot water has to go through many more molecular changes to achieve a rinse...

you both are right.
hot will help soften any left residue on the dishes and make it rinse off better, and the cold will help keep the sudsing down and rinse faster.
Cold?? ... it does conserve on the heat energy, but is it worth it??? I say as long as they get done, it really is the important factor.
FYI: The hot water makes the dishes dry faster since the heat is flashing off the water and making it evaporate faster.

I wash & rinse my dishes in hot water. Hot water sanitizes the dishes. And the dishes dries faster.

Cold. I don't really know why though. You can use hot or cold I guess. Whatever you want to do. Why don't you do this? You use Hot water and your roomate can use cold water.

maybe cold to warm i guess cuz too hot might not be good for the dishes and it wastes a lot of energy like your roomate said

I wash them in hot water to get them clean......then, I rinse them in cold....it does save energy.....plus I think cold water makes it easier to rinse soap off.
