Can someone tell me what I am missing or doing wrong? I am moving into a new place. I was told it is connected for cable internet. I connected the cable into my laptop but am not getting any signal. Do I need a cable modem or something?

Yes, you need a cable modem for sure, and if the cable company was not the one that told you that your internet is connected then I would guess that its really not.
