I asked for tips and help before on writing a book but I got really great responses last time, but I want even more. I would really appreciate if all you writers can give me some tips, some mistakes that you made when you were still a beginner, etc. Anything that would help me with my novel. Pretend that you're talking to someone that knows nothing about writing a novel or a short story.

It doesn't have to be general, it can be specific or anything.
Thanks in advance!

I'm not published or anything, but I still hope I can help:

I have a bunch of novels in preparation. What I do is make a quick plan when I first get the idea. I plan out characters and plot and a bunch of details. Then I start to do a generic chapter plan. Nothing too detailed. Just a few sentences on what I want to happen in which chapter. It actually helps me get started. Planning is one of my favorite stages. It's cool to get to know my characters before I start, so I know how to move the story along.

One mistake I always make is thinking the first draft has to be perfect. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. The first draft is the worst draft, in my opinion. Not saying that you did a horrible job writing it. It's naturally that way. It takes real editing and revision to fix it up. Editing is checking for spelling and grammar. Revision is taking out, adding, moving around. Both of them are really important.

And another mistake I make is worrying about other people's opinions. I tell myself to write for me. I don't have to write for anyone else but me. And even if I go on to editing, I just have to make sure I'm satisfied. If I let anyone else read it, it's up to them whether they like it or not. But if I like it, most likely, my readers (a.k.a. friends and classmates) like it too.

Best of luck, hope I helped you!

in case you haven't any longer carried out lots writing, attempt to place in writing a short tale or a novella first, in the previous embarking on something as ambitious as a different. All writers tend to perform a little variety of making plans, it truly is advisable to create your guy or woman myth international with its very own creatures and landscapes, or set it in modern-day or historic, interior the destiny or an alien planet. caricature out some interesting characters, consistent with probability borrow issues worry-unfastened to mythology and fairy tale like Dragons and Magic, and picture of a few interesting or interesting issues that could take place to them. With myth a worry-unfastened topic is to start interior the conventional international, introduce a pass or a metamorphosis, alongside with Harry Potter being invited to Hogwarts, or the youngsters interior the lion witch and cloth wardrobe and 5 toddlers and it, going to stay in a house interior the rustic. With the substitute, you introduce the myth factor, alongside with while lucy discovers narnia interior the cloth wardrobe. The protagonists will then undergo a pair variety of emotional or very own substitute by way of adventures interior the myth international and alter into greater suitable, and then bypass away the myth international understanding greater approximately themselves. I used this topic in one among my early novella. Sleep Runners (link below)

The best idea is to research stuff before writing, especially if you plan to send this in for publishing. For example, instead of lossely describing a sword as a sword, jump to wikipedia and make it a broadsword, or rapier, or arming sword, or whatever.

This is going to sound stupid, but try reading a lot, as many different authors as you can. Also get a hold of audiobooks and listen to them when you can't read. Pay attention to the author's writing style cause you can get some ideas from there.

heres a tip: try first just getting the idea of the story out, then go back and get the right words, then add details, edit it, and last write it one more time neatly.
