Renaming your wife?

I have two uncles, none blood related, whom I am certain are controlling. They call their wives a different name then their real name. Real name Trisha calls her Doris. Most of the time when she has done something "dumb."

Does anyone know of the psychological term for this?

I think this is just a joke between your uncles and their wives. People tend to have nick names they use for each other when they do something dumb. A typical name for a guy is "Waldo" and a typical name for a woman is "Dora".

It is usually used when one's partner does something really dumb and it is a joking term. A typical example for the use of this term would be they are starting to pour themselves more coffee and accidentally pour it in their orange juice instead of their coffee cup.
