I used to drive a cab. I'd take your driver's license as security for payment as long as the address on it was either where I picked you up or dropped you off. I would also hold valuables as security at your risk.

A check or credit card. If you were going home you could get him money or have him take you to a ATM machine but you could pay with a debit card.
You wouldn't be likely to have something with you that had the same value as your fare, you wouldn't want to give a diamond necklace for a $15 fare and they wouldn't take a used watch.
Try to borrow the money from someone where you get dropped off if you have no means of paying.

i don't know if you were going home you could go inside and get it or ask to borrow from someone.
