If you don't know DOS, then you aren't going to have luck setting up linux. You might get it installed but it isn't as user friendly when it comes to installing drivers and probably won't run many Windows based games.

Other than that, the features some distro's come with include a universal messenger, diagnostis tools and extensive networking/internet tools.

I would advise Fedora, it's the version I run on my other hard drive. For the 10 bucks it costs to get the copy mailed to you, it's worth it to give it a try but unless you have a seperate hard drive to fiddle with, it may be at the risk of not having a running computer for awhile.

Fedora is really user friendly compared to other distro's so if you can't work it, then linux isn't for you.

Just because you IM and play games is not a good reason to switch to Linux, If you're used to Windows/DOS, Linux is a whole other ballfield. And would only complicate things. You should stick with Windows but learn more about it and how it works so you'll be more efficient with it. Try reading up on Windows using Wikipedia ...

What kind of OS do you have now? Linux is an OS (operating System), and its free. I wouldn't recommend using Linux unless you are familiar with it. They have open source, which is nice, and also the security is way better, but if you use your computer for more than that game, then I would not pick Linux. Unless of course you run a business, then it would be cheaper too.
