I'm told over and over that my passion for video games is unhealthy, even though I do do other things in life. I'm just curious, since you don't "make something" from games, is it a hobby?

Well, let's look at the definition of Hobby (noun): An activity or interest pursued outside one's regular occupation and engaged in primarily for pleasure.

So YES, it is a hobby... though it isn't a craft !

I don't play video games, given that my subject matter just isn't out there anymore (Naval War-gaming).

And I am AMAZED at some kids and young adults SERIOUS addiction to video games... my nephew (23) can sit and play on his PS3 for 20 hours !!

Get up off the couch and walk !! Then go back to your hobby.

You could consider it a hobby. A relatively unproductive hobby I don't particularly condone, but a hobby. I tend to think of a hobby as something you do to be creative in some way on an amature level...this is in no way the best example.

Sure, I think it could be a hobby. And I think anything done to an excess is unhealthy.

It's more of a pass-time like sports, but it does improve hand-eye coordination...
