One of the middle ranged processors of the next line will probably be faster than the current Extreme edition, and of course it will be less. Every line has an extreme edition, and it is always about $1000, meaning when the next line comes out you can get a $300 one that will outperform it.

Probably, they've already released a bunch of low-end chips, so they'll probably release a new top of the line chip. Chances are it will be more expensive or the same price, but will push other chip prices down after a couple of months.

the clock speed race between intel and amd is over. it no longer matters as much as it did before. before they were competing for fastest clock speed, not quality, 2days processors focus more on quality and dependability than how fast they are. but yes that is the order of things, newer, faster, and cheaper cpu's come out year after year.
