Tech support is no help. My linksys is telling me I'm connected at 54 Mbps, but pages are taking so long to load... I might as well have dial-up. We have 5 computers and 4 are wireless and the problem started today. Have reset and restarted everything, shut off 4 of 5 of them and tried only one. All my settings seem ok. I'm running a WEP security enabled connection. Even the wired desktop is doing it, it is wired through the router. It's a WRT54G v.3 Linksys. Can I do anything???

Have tried the "repair" feature, to no avail.

Only one neighbor in range and they have their own wireless system, plus mine has a security key.

power cycle everything.

1-turn off ALL computers.
2- remove power from both your router and cable modem
3 unscrew the COAX cable going into the modem
4-wait 5 min
5-power on cable modem
6 after you see some lights blinking on your cable modem, screw in the COAX cable (this will pull a fresh signal from the line)
7- wait untill modem is FULLY booted (all lights on and green)
8-plug in router
9-power on 1 pc and test

if all works fine, power on a single pc at a time.

if this does not work, remove the router, plug 1 pc into the cable modem directly.

if still slow, your cable modem is jacked, or more likely, your pc's are infected.

I'm with Taba on this one. Your speed is 54 base on your strenght meter on the signal, so the only problem on that would be a speed or DNS resolution problem.

For speed there is nothing you can do if that happens at certain times during the day. It is just too many people around sharing the bandwith (Internet).

For DNS it might be that your DNS Servers are very slow to find a translation between the friendly name to IP.

For the DNS I use the OpenDNS Servers (super fast). You only need to manually set the DNS Servers (primary and secondary) on your TCP/IP Settings on the wireless adapter.

OpenDNS Server IP's are:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

You should see a dramatic change in the page load once you make that change.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Sounds more like you have a problem with your internet connection and not your router or computers.

Try testing your internet bandwidth to see what the speed is at the moment. You might need to call your Internet Service Provider.

Also try turning off the modem and letting it kool down before turning it back on. If your in a area, like me, that is having a heat wave, then over heating of electronics could be a problem also.

Check this ... login to the router ... see how many of your neighbors are using the router. That would make it slow.

Hook your cable/dsl modem directly to your desktop. If it still persists, call your ISP.
