When nails tear and break like that, it's an indication of an internal condition. Hair, skin, and nails are made of the same things. When our body isn't getting all it needs, it takes as much as it can get for the organs, to prioritize it's use of nutrients. That means the nails ( and skin and hair) go without the nutrients they need. Sometimes added nutrition helps. Be sure your diet is good. There are some things like adding Knox gelatin to your diet can help the strength of your nails a bit.

One thing to start doing is put a tiny drop of olive oil (any type is fine) on each fingernail at night, then massage it in, will moisturize your nails so they will not snap off so easily. It increases flexibility. It's also wonderful for your cuticles. When you want to apply nail polish, swab your nails with polish remover before the polish to remove traces of oil that will cause the polish to chip off more easily. Also, do NOT allow your polish to chip off. As soon as it starts to chip off, remove it and apply new polish. The chips pull small layers of nail off, weakening the nail with each chip.

Sally Hansen make a nail strengthner, works real well. Apply once a day for 5 days and than remove and repeat after the 1st week or 2 you will notice a difference. Acrylic nails will only weaken the nail beds and can be expensive sometimes.

You can find nail strengthener at tons of places, I recomend Target. Just paint it on every day, or the strengtheners instructions.

Also, keeping your nails painted (with 2 or 3 coats) will keep your nails temorariliy together, but if the nail polish flakes off, you nail will probably go with it. So you would need to be careful to remove your polish before it comes off by itself.
