Ivan Rodriguez is only 35 years old and needs less than 500 hits to reach 3,000. I know that no catcher has ever done that, but I'm having a tough time finding out who got the most hits in that position.

Ted Simmons is the most with 2,472, but he has played over 200 games at a differnt position (234.)

Pudge will probably pass him though, he has 2,434. He just neeed 30 more, I'm guessing around 25 more games. You can say he's a catcher because he has only played a different position 60 games. (1B I'm assuming)

Ted Simmons had more career hits, but he also played 234 games at positions other than catcher. Pudge, on the other hand, has played only 60 games at a position other than catcher.

Given that Simmons only has 38 more hits than Pudge, it's likely that Pudge actually has more hits while playing the catcher position.

Ted Simmons has 2472 hits and is the leader for a catcher. I thought Fisk would be the leader, but he has 2356.

Only one I can think of that would be close is Johnny Bench. If not him then somebody prior to 1970 most likely.
