Things work out at times but it seems the reward is almost always a contorted and compromised version of what was being sought after in the first place...

I agree however...to say not to have preconcieved notions is like saying not to want anything and you will not be dissappointed...another compromise...

Life isn't perfect. It is unpredictable. The outcome is never exactly what you had envisioned. I suppose you do learn to compromise. When I create a painting, I have the perfect vision in my head, but the execution is never exactly what I'd planned. I've reconciled myself to the fact that I am not perfect & nothing I do will be "perfect" but that's ok. Actually sometimes I'm surprised at how things turn out. There is a bit of magic that happens. The imperfect & unexpected can be beautiful.

You have to let go of your need for control (this is something I still struggle with). Even if you can control yourself & everything you do (which in itself is iffy) you can't control other people or the world as a whole. So you can't write out a script for your life & have people follow it. So in that sense no things will never work out just right. But it's ok. See what happens. Be open to the unexpected & realize that it's not so bad. Hey if you were in complete control, life would be pretty predictable & boring. There would be nothing to learn or discover.

Good luck.

Even a contorted & compromised version of life is still a beautiful gift. Learn to focus on the positive & everything that goes right or is at least pretty good rather than focusing on the negative, things that go wrong & are disappointing.

In Heaven everything will be perfect. In this world, it's a crap shoot...

Maybe the answer is not to go into it with preconceived expectations. I find the most satisfying results are the ones which come either unexpectedly, or in a completely different way than I believed they would. Kind of like cooking... make up a recipe out of the clear blue sky and you find you're eating something delightful. Most of the time you didn't have expectations, you just wanted to 'play around'.
