The reigning queen of country music... Lorretta Lynn... still living... saw her recently at the Grand Ole Opry on the same bill as Gretchen Wilson, how's that for staying power!

Carrie Underwood is brand spanking new. No way is she even close to being queen of country.
I'd say Patsy Cline and Kitty Wells of the 50s.
The 60s into the 70s saw the rise of Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, and Dolly Parton.
The 80s had Reba McEntire at her peak.
The 90s were obviously dominated by Shania Twain. She has carried that momentum into the recent years and of course you can't really call who else will follow, too soon to tell.
Love em or hate em the Dixie Chicks are the only notable girl group in years.
And of course there are many other big names in each decade but these have to be the biggest.

At the very least, the queen should be alive....so I'll say it's Dolly. Everybody loves Dolly. Reba's the princess, I suppose. Tammy? As in Wynette? Like I said...I'll go with someone who's still alive. Maybelle Carter? Dead for almost 30 years. Patsy Cline...dead since 1963! I thought the question was who "is" the queen.
By the way...Shania Twain? How about someone who could find Nashville on a map?
