There is a huge difference in the speed. With a USB connection its 480mb/s, though with eSATA its 1000mb/s! Is there some kind of adaptor that can make my USB external hard drive connect to the eSATA port on my pc?

yes, if that ex hard drive is a SATA drive, if so crack open the case (bye bye warranty) and attach a sata cable from the hard drive to the esata port on the back of the computer.

the dirve might still need power from an outlet
