Everything alive has two sides. Duality is basic. Without it there is no current, no consciousness, no process, no differences and comparisons; no relationships. What in China is designated Yang and Yin the Egyptians called Horus and Seth. The object was to bring these powers into balance. Wisdom, represented by the god Thoth, was seen as the product of that balance.
The problem that arises with duality is only when the imbalance has become extreme; or if the 'left' hand doesn't know what the 'right' hand is doing.
But when the opposites act in a harmonious and complementary way life is not just sane and healthy, it can also be sublime.
When the opposites are just at war with one another, then a person can be fickled, indecisive or downright untrustworthy.
The art and the science of living must be the act of balancing our fundamental duality. We all have dualistic tendencies and traits, even if we are not Geminis.

Yes. The Chinese called it the Yin and the Yang, two sides to a soul occupying one body. The goal was to keep the Yin and the Yang in balance - too much Yin and not enough Yang, pushover. Too much Yang and not enough Yin, evil. They developed many theories, medicinal cures, and feng-shui in attempts to balance the Yin and the Yang within themselves.
Western psychologists call it the "Id" and/or the "Ego". Some people go even farther identifying the multi-layered personality traits as "The Parent" (your responsible, logical self), "The Child" (your irresponsible, egotistical, illogical self) and the You making the choice in between.
Your goal is still balance. One thing you can do is write down everything, good and bad, about yourself, and start working at what you can change. Writing it down helps you see yourself more objectively and less passionately, and allows you time to see and reflect on points you may not have thought about before.
Good Luck.

Sure so long as you have a single cohesive personality.
If one of those sides is contemplating the best method of skinning, while still alive, you next door neighbor's dog because it left a present on your lawn again then I'd seek some professional guidence.
Most of us have multiple layers of personality (look into the whole Id/Ego thing if you like) the trick is if when you put it all together it makes sense and you are a reasonalby ration sophont. ;)

If you really think about it you have more than two sides. I'm a mother, sister to my sister, sister to my brothers, daughter to my mother, daughter to my father, cousin, aunt to my nieces and aunt to my nephews. Not to mention the people that I work with and the people that I help get services for. How many aspects of my personality does that leave me? You're a different person with each person that you interact with because each person requires something different from you because they are different people. Even your children while they Will all require that you love and protect and guide them there will be different things that they need from you just because they are different people. I have three daughters and even though they all have a learning disabilities they had different ones or different degree of the same ones which required me to react differently with each of them. So even with my children I can be three different mothers depending on what each child requires of me.

Perfectly!!!!
I think that the two sides are there to protect one another, there are situations in life where you could get hammered for being too soft , so the other side takes over which is harder and more forceful so you can cope. I call it a defence mechanism in us all. some people call it their survival line

Everything in this universe has 2 sides, so why wouldn't you? There is no up without a down, no here without a there, no hot without cold. Language resides in duality. Because humans use language and meaning we also are 2 sides. Try googling 'janus faced' and read up on it. A coin is janus faced and so are we humans.

I don't know...
call me crazy but I stop and ask myself what I'm doing sometimes...
and we all have how we want people to see us and sides of ourselves we just can't avoid (like my inner child can't possibly be lost lol >_>)...
most of my thinking is done by asking myself questions and answering them... is that split personality disorder? or just split personality order?...
I think there's always things about yourself that you're afraid other people might make fun of or think ill of you for. I don't think anyone doesn't have atleast one of those things...
everyone I know thinks I'm crazy, but in a good way =/...
I think most people are 2 or more sides to them...
I think it's ok to talk to yourself and re-evaluate what you're doing if it makes sense...
I think it's ok to ask yourself if you're crazy...
I think the healthiest answer is "yeah a little" lol...
I think it beonces split personality disorder when a side of you knows things you don't, when it thinks in ways you don't...
I think there's a line between multifaceted and split personality, and while it gets crossed for you, you know when you've gone over...
(oh and by "inner child" I mean childish like "OMG spiderman comic ^_^", "OMG mango icecream ^_^")
