They were good basic transportation. They did not have a lot of power, but they did have surprising interior room. The gas mileage was great.
They did not sell well, because people were more concerned about comfort and power than gas mileage!

Since I always see them beat up and neglected with white trash people driving them I assumed they were pieces of crap.
But then I saw the real reason that people trashed them, is because, for some wacky reason people who buy inexpensive cars (like the Yugo) assume their cheap car doesn't need regular maintanence, and the car breaks down over time - just like a $50K BMW will.
Geo/Chevy Metros were built by Suzuki and were actually pretty dang reliable in design.
I would totally buy one - 45mpg is a good thing - a lack of luxury features is another good thing.
