from having different or more teams.

I believe Boise St would make a nice addition to the PAC 10 and could be very competitive....That would leave the PAC 10 needing one more team to qualify for a Conference Championship Game. Maybe Air Force or a similar team would fit in that role.

I think its the general consensus that Notre Dame belongs in the Big 10, but, that obviously would never happen, so, Im thinking Navy would be a nice fit.....Hard nosed smash mouth running attack...yeah, they are a bit undersized, but, they have seemed to be pretty competitive the last few years and lets face it, the flex option is still the most fun offense to watch in college football.......Any input

You are right with Boise State. By winning a major bowl game, they have proven to be a good enough NCAA school to get into a bigger conference.

I also think that Notre Dame should get in a conference. Most of their games are played in the Big Ten, so they could join with them. It would be a lot easier for them to get into Bowl Games if they are in a conference. Even though they may never do it, it would be nice to see it happen.

Besides what you said, I think that some bad teams should get out of the major conferences. It's not bad that they're there, but will Northwestern ever win a Big Ten Title? Teams like that would be better off in a less competitive conference, that way it would make it funner for them, and the fans.

BYU would also be a good team to get into a more competitive conference. They spanked Oregon in their Bowl Game, plus they had a great year. However, I would wait on them for some more consistency, that is one of the teams you should keep an eye on though.

I also would say that TCU could get "moved up." They have been good for the last few years, and they aren't getting much competition in the conference.

I'm not saying all of these teams should get into a big conference right now. But they are just some teams to look at and concider. We will jsut see what happend with all of them.

Pac 10: There fine the way they are the WAC and Mountain West will be good Fiesta bowl conferences as proved by Boise State and Utah.

Big 10: Being a Michigan State fan, I personally think Louisville would give a good twist but nix the idea of the Fighting Irish. Navy is too far east and should be in some no-name conference. A Conference USA or MAC just isn't at the same scale.

Big 12: A big enough conference as is. Anyways they always lose the Fiesta Bowl to some decent, creative (unlike Michigan) underdog.

ACC: what was Georgia Tech,a # 18? they should dig up a hole because FSU and Miami FL will be under-water in another 20 years with glaciers melting.

Big East: Why not join the ACC with out the UFC and NC St.'s of the world? Huh, how does that sound?

I think that most of the BCS conferences should go to 12 members, and make the maximum out of the idea of winning your conference.

Then, I see Utah and BYU joining the Pac-10. Football wise, they probably have the most appropriate facilities and crowd support for the Pac-10. And the rest of their sports will be competitive in the Pac-10, so they should be a good fit.

Notre Dame is your logical Big Ten addition, but I'm pretty sure the Irish don't want that level of competition. But a return to the Pitt-Penn State rivalry would be perfect for the Big Ten, and Pitt would fit in with other sports as well.

The Big East? Its a disaster because of its basketball arrangements; how do you add more schools to a conference which already has 16 members for hoops? The basketball only members of the Big East should spin off and form their own conference for hoops only, and let the football schools get to a 12 team league. With Pitt going to the Big Ten, who to add? Notre Dame makes sense, as they will have the opportunity to become the dominant power in this conference. Memphis makes sense, as their basketball programs doesn't fit into the CUSA any more and the football team is an ideal member. Geography really starts screwing this up, at this point. You're not likely to raid the MAC, and after Memphis few teams are left of quality in the CUSA. Army and Navy are likely geographic members, and they have longstanding traditions with many Big East schools.

And then merge again the Mountain West and the WAC, and merge the MAC, CUSA and Sun Belt. Then you have only eight conferences, and can set up a national playoff between the eight champions.

A lot of the answers above seem to look at the question in a way that no AD or conference would: from a football-only perspective.

Setting that aside, though, the SEC, ACC and Big XII are unlikely to add any more teams, as anything more than 12 becomes very unwieldy. It's just too hard to set up inter-division matchups and still keep all the rivalries intact.

But remember that Miami was invited to join the SEC, and after they turned it down, it was well-known that the conference wanted FSU but wouldn't officially extend in invitation unless they knew it would be accepted. Either would have been a good fit.

Boise State seems like a good addition to the Pac-10, but it remains to be seen whether they can continue their excellence over time. They're going to have to prove that they can stay at or near this level for more than a year after Dan Hawkins left.

Sorry, but none of the acadamy schools could ever make it in a BCS conference, they would simply never be able to compete. I agree with Boise in the Pac-10, and the other team I would add is Utah, also considering Fresno State Hawaii and BYU. Also, the Big Ten needs another team for a championship game, and since Notre Dame would never join, Pittsburgh or Louisville or West Virginia would fit the bill there. It would be for Baylor's good to leave the Big XII South so they could restore some dignity to a once proud program, but for the good of the Big XII, they need to stay, Every division needs a doormat.

I would like to put Hawaii and Boise St in the mountain west. I miss the old WAC before they went to 16 teams. I think the mountain west was smart in getting away from the WAC but they forgot to invite Hawaii. The mountain west is already a strong conference with different champs yearly and with the two new teams it would make it even more competitive. I think with the addition of Hawaii and Boise the conference is just as good as the PAC 10. Utah and Boise were in BCS games recently and I think Hawaii and TCU will have a good chance this year.

Navy is not likely going to move to the Big 10 nor Notre Dame due to other commitments. (Notre Dame is basically a member of the Big East in every sport other than Football...). It would make more sense for Louisiana Tech to get out of the WAC and eventually join Western Kentucky in the Sun Belt. Louisiana Tech and Western Kentucky would automatically improve the Sun Belt Conference's quality while balancing out the WAC's 8 remaining members. The Balance of the Major conferences may not need to be rearranged any further than necessary.

I think West Virginia deserves to be put in a better conference. The ACC maybe.
If SMU would play like they used to they could replace Baylor in the Big12.
Your idea about Boise State moving to the Pac-10 would be great, but putting Air Force in their would screw up the Mountain West.
Notre Dame will never in a million years move to any conferences, not even the Big10 (shouldn't it be the Big11?)
I still think that Florida State should be in the SEC instead of the ACC. I don't know why, but it just seems like they're a team fit for the SEC.

Thank you for posting the question.

Penn State and Miami should be independent, like they were fifteen years ago. Notre Dame should stay independent. WHY?- It was much more fun for me as a Penn State fan when we played Nebraska, Notre Dame, Alabama, and Pitt every year when they were really good. the rest of the schedule was full of occasional top 25 entrants like West Virginia(huge rival0 Boston College( with Doug Flutie) Miami-program just getting good in the 1980's and then the Temple, Syracuse, Rutgers, Cincinnatis of the world. We had 4 games a year against top 10 opponents and 4 games against top 25 wannabes, and 3 against scrubs. Wouldn't you have liked to have been at Penn State watchiig them play the great Dan Marino his senior year? Or see the first night game at PSU against Nebraska, with Turner Gill, Mike Rozier, Irving Fryer and Dave Rimington? Or see Alabama when Bear Bryant was still coaching? or Notre Dame with Lou Holtz as coach? Why would Notre Dame give that up? They wouldn't and they shouldn't, and I wish Penn State and Miami wouldn't have, either. Joining the Big Ten would stifle Notre Dame, just let them be.

The Pac 10 isn't going to add anyone any time soon, so expect Boise to eventually join the Mountain West. The WAC is doing nothing for them.

If the Big Ten is going to add another team to go to 12, my choice would be Iowa State, and then split the conference North-South, with Iowa, ISU, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and MSU in the North and IU, PU, UI, NW, OSU, and PSU in the South.

Otherwise, boot Penn State out of the Big Ten and make them go to the Big East.

I'm still not certain why Baylor was asked to join the Big XII with Texas, A&M, and Tech and TCU wasn't. Baylor has been atrocious in both football and basketball. TCU belongs in the Big XII, not Baylor. If ISU leaves, add Colorado State to the Big XII.
