The idea of a Token Ring network was not to have a hub as it was a ring and all computers were in a "ring". Each computer controlled the traffic by use of a token....as each computer recieved the token, it got the right to send a packet....the token contained the sender and reciever....as the token passed around, each computer checked the token to see if the packet was for that computer..........if it was, it was recieved and the token cleared and passed around.....

Token ring does not have a hub, IT CAN, but usually didn't. The RING was really a cable loop. The "Hub" emulated a loop but allowed cabling to be ran to a central location much like the ethernet network.
