For these little fish i dont have a filter or anything for them. I have 2 of them. They are little tetra fish. I got them at Wal*Mart and it was the fish that didnt even have a filter for like the oxygen bubbles so i got them because i nkew i wouldnt have one so maybe they will live awhile and that would be kewl. Well to get them a little bit of oxygen would it be a good or bad idea to lift them in and out of the water about 3 times real quick so they can get a little oxygen but it would quick enough for them not to get scared. Sorry that was so long. Please and thanks for the help.

No do not take them in and out of the water. It is far to stressful for them. The stress could cause them to perish.

You can get a small air pump with some air line and a small air stone for less than $10.00 at walmart. That will be the best thing for them.

Lift THEM in and out of the water? Oh my god. Only if you want to kill them from constant terror. PLEASE don't.

Tetras absolutely need oxygenation and filtration to live long. If your goal is just for them to "live awhile," a few days, maybe a couple of weeks if they're really tough little guys, is gonna be about it.

Try using a cup to lift some of the WATER in and out of the tank, or a straw to blow bubbles into it. Anything to stir up the water. But do it as far as away from the poor fish as you can.

If you want to not be cruel to these fish, please consider a filter and heater. I found some small ones at Wal-Mart for under $10 each for my 2.5 gallon betta tank.

These guys don't need a big tank, but filtration and oxygen are necessary for any tropical fish. Lifting them in and out of the water will stress them, and more than likely not do any good.

If you mean the colorful little fish they have in small cups it's a betta not a tetra.

As far as oxygen or air for fish, it's always, always better to have them in a filtered aquarium. That will provide all the air exchange needed and will clean the water as well.
