I have limited ability to do mark downs or specials. I do have more liberties than some of the larger retail stores, however. I can move things (for the most part) where I like and I can do markdowns on older merchandise but in limited quantities.
I really would just like to get sales up a bit. My corporate office is preaching this but they offer no useful ideas as to how to make it happen. Is there anything I can do?????

Any ideas would be a big help! Thanks!

Have special events like a amateur fashion show where you invite staff and their children to model your clothing if you sell clothing. If you sell kitchen things have a demo of something like how to make radish roses or some other easy to master skill. Cater to people's small children post pictures they draw for you or give tokens to a mechanical pony ride or have a kiddy play area where shoppers can leave the small ones safe for a hour while they shop.
Have a sidewalk sale or midnight madness, give balloons to children with a string to tie to their stroller or wrist, remind parents strings and balloons need watched so kids don't hurt themselves.
