how can i disable windows update notification icon from the system tray in xp?

I've already turned off the updates.

Goto Control Panel -> Security Center -> Click on "Change the way Security Center alerts me" -> Un-Check Automatic Updates

Not a good idea to turn of auto updates, you need those patches and upgrades.
