I have one myself, so I don't mind a goatee, I am straight btw, but I will say that on some men a goatee looks ridiculous

my ex-wife said it was to hide a weak chin. turns out it was her who had the weak chin and i kept my goatee and moved on. beeeaach!

If it's nasty and stringy, then blech. If thick and well-trimmed can be nice but usually still a bit seedy even if it does look hot.
