i think that society has taught most women they have to be perfect for someone to like or love them ....its more about a persons personality i think anyways you could be the most beautiful person in the world and have the most horrable attitude...

This is a result of society's expectations. How do I know? First hand experience. I used to absolutely not care a flying frigg what people thought of me. But, as I became a teenager and started being surrounded by "the media" I slowly began to worry about my looks.
It IS natural to want to be accepted. That part isn't society, it's just us. But, to be accepted you have to do what 'society' expects, which is to be the prettiest sex object you can be. (It's not just men to be blamed or men that must be impressed. Often it's other women we have to impress, and I don't mean lesbians. Someone mentioned shoes, for example. Men may not even notice women's shoes [some do, but that's irrelevant] but other women might.)
That's not to say women don't like to be pretty just to be pretty! In fact, many women dress up just because they want to. The /stress/ over these things is from society.
I loved that you said 'the majority' and not just 'women', by the way.
And sexy is about /sooo/ much more than showing a lot of skin.

Probably because the guys around them tend to not put alot of thought into the comments that leave thier mouths if they dont put the effort to look good to go somewhere.
If you go out dressed up and do your hair etc to go out your sure gonna hear nice things ( and most likely a few perverted ones) but if you through your hair in a bun and jeans and a baggy tshirt what are you gonna hear.
Unless the guy likes that of course.

Good question. My answer would have to be that they feel like all eyes would be on them because they worked so hard so they thought they deserve the attention, when really most people think that there showing off. But women take pride in how they look and how they act. so its best not to doubt there looks. they will try to get in shape to fit into nicer outfits and to look "Beautiful". If they see an outfit that they like, chances are thety would probably think that they would look fat in it so they would try to work out as to not look as big

Because so many of us get rejected by our looks.
You would notice me if I was a six-foot, thin, beautiful, sexy blonde. You pass me by because I'm five-foot, brown-haired, and somewhat dumpy. I could lose a few pounds, but you would still pass me by because I'm not your type, which is basically a Barbie-doll. You still wouldn't care if I knew how to drive a front-end loader (I even have a license to prove it), good fishing spots in the Sierra Nevada mountains, or how to body-board, because you would never come up to talk to me in a bar other than to hit on me for a one-night-stand after you've had five or six and I'm the last woman in the bar without a date.
All you want to see or look at are six-foot blonde Barbie dolls, and I am invisible because I am not.

Society, mixed with the fact that man is a visual animal. The majority, unlike yourself, seem to like some of the things that women force themselves into...though with the media, magazines and such they do a lot to themselves that I don't understand. Look what they do to their feet with their shoes...and it's my belief that a lot of men don't even pay attention to their shoes.

society conditions woman into thinking that they MUST look like that....all the way back to growing up and being dressed in fancy little dresses with hair bows and what not. LOL
I am lucky my father raised me, and I wore what I was comfy in, jeans, sweats... now I like to get dressed up, but it's definitely a balance, and NEVER fake... plastic surgery, extensions etc, I work out. LOL
Have a great one!

People like to feel good about themselves.
Don't you make any effort to look good for your wife/girlfriend/whatever?
If not, maybe you should; she'll appreciate it.
This isn't meant offensively, by the way; i realise it sounds a bit like it but seriously, it's nice to make a little effort.

They do it to look good for you guys.
Some of them over do it though.
Me, I like the natural look, very little make up
and clean clothes that fit. I'm not into style.
