I want a poster of an illustration from a children's book. I can't seem to find it. Can I buy the book and create a decoupage of the illustrations on canvas or is that illegal?

Jungle Gym Jitters by Chuck Richards - I saw a poster of his of a treehouse in a children's hospital that we were taking my daughter to... I want it really bad for my son's room, which is a camping themed room. Can't find another poster like it, only the book.

Hi!
1. No.. it's not illegal as long as you just don't try to sell it:)
2. Here is the publisher contact for your book. Just ask them how to obtain the poster. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to help you. I wish you good luck!

Technically it is, however it is always possible to get permission some way and, when it gets down to the nitty gritty, however, as long as it's for personal use and never enters the realm of the open market then there is nothing technically wrong. According to the copyright a certain percentage of a work can be produced without having permission from the creator. Also, truthfully, as long as a work is not mass produced or reproduced for profit artists have no problem with that.

genuinely. you would be annoying-pressed to cajole every person that (illustrations in) comedian books are not paintings, on account that they incorporate drawings, that are especially much universally seen paintings. comedian books fall into the class of seen paintings. previous that, the type determines the class to three degree. in any case, the class isn't inevitably agreed upon or important. Comics often tell thoughts, like the subsequent point 'up' (this is, in a seen direction) from a heavily illustrated novel, with a view to communicate. might God bless you.

Nope. That's not illegal.
If you try to sell it for profit without any registration or copyright of that picture, then it's illegal.
But drawing it alone is fine. You can give it out for free to some people but you can't claim it as your own artwork [even though you painting it, it doesn't mean it's your work].
Unless you are working to make a copy by law than either way you go is fine.
Which children's book by the way?
It seems interesting. =]
Thanks,
Mairy

As long as you do not try to sell it, it is totally legal. Once you buy the book, it is yours to do with as you please but if you were to sell it after doing your thing in it or to it and then you tried to sell it as something by the author, that would be illegal unless you got permission and paid a royalty.

as long as you don't sell it or publish in some way it you can do whatever you want. you could print 100 posters and give them all away for free. you just can't use a copyrighted image to promote any commercial product or service, or claim ownership of it in any way.
