Well here's the deal, my mom got a car, 2006 about 1 month ago, it allready needs service, need oil change, new breaks, new filters and it needs to repair the lock on the door, the keyhole to start the car and the dealer wont cover anything of it, should i threathen legal action?

she bought extended warranty and it still is under the original waranty

since she bought it it only has taken 2000 miles from daily driving

as far as the filter and oil change, i know thats the owners respponsivility but should they had sold her a car with 75% good oil left and a crappy used filter?

and i think they SHOULD cover any repairs that arise

Extended warranties actually cover nothing meaningful. It needs to be something major that break downs unexpectedly, and not due to normal wear and tear.

Anything that is classified as routine maintenance is not covered by warranty. Oil, filters, and brakes are the buyers responsibility. They should have been inspected before purchasing and the price negotiated accordingly.

You might be able to get the ignition lock and door lock done, but I'm sure those aren't your typical warranty coverage issues either. Definitely try for those.

Try to be courteous and get a manager to talk to you. You'll get better results.

If that doesn't work, file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Find out how many complaints there have been. You might as well do that first so you know just how bad they really are.

Realistically, used car dealers don't care about losing one future potential customer. They already sold you on one vehicle. They don't need your future business.

Oil changes, air filters and brakes are not covered as they are normal wear and tear items the door lock is another thing. The warranty covers engine and drive train. Since oil changes are every 3000 miles and you put on 2000 that is only 33% used when she bought the car not 75%

the car is a 2006, you can take it to any dealer that services whatever make your car is and the warranty should cover the lock and possibly the brakes if the rotors are warped, they don't cover oil changes but the dealer you bought it from should have at least done that before you took it. Most warranties in 06 were good for 3yrs, 36,000 miles bumper to bumper.

Stuff like brakes and oil changes and filters aren't covered. Depending on your state warranty laws differ, usually brakes have to be better than 50% when you pick up the car.

Your mom shouldnt have accepted the car with all those problems not without working out some written aggrement as to their repairs.

you need to read the warranty. warranties don't cover every bit of wear and tear that comes from normal use, typically they cover major problems like engine and transmission. what you described is either damage caused by the driver, normal maintenance, or damage that was there (and most likely disclosed) at the time of sale so if i had to guess i would say that it's not covered, but read the warranty to make sure, and if you call the dealer to ask them to cover some expenses......be nice, the nicer you are the better chance of them helping. i bought an 03 saturn 2 years ago and lost the transmission when it was 300 miles outside of warranty. i called saturn headquarters, and was VERY nice, and they covered half of the $5000 bill to replace the transmission.

depending on what is covered on the warrnty you need to read it carefully and if you do not under have the dealer explane it to you . how do you know it is a old oil filter. and yes the dealer should cover it but like i said have them explane it to you
