If so, why do some of you insist on reporting people who, regularly or not, actively participate to the smooth running of this website by asking & answering various questions?!?
If that's the case, what does freedom of speech actually mean to you?

I believe in freedom of speech, but I hate stupid people with stupid answers who answer any old crap just to get two points rather than actually answer the question. Freedom of speech is lovely, but then there's what should be going around as respect for the asker. If I reported anybody on this site, it was because the answer did not have anything to do with the question and disrespected the asker. I mean, how would YOU like it if I simply quoted bible passages for 10 paragraphs or rattled off senseless crap just for the points? I reported the bible quoter because even the passages quoted had nothing to do with the answer, I mean, really, if you're going to quote the bible, for heaven's sake make the passage quoted relate to the answer!
Because frankly, freedom of speech is a great gift, but I subtract IQ points for things like really bad spelling (HELLOOOO - spell check included!) foul language, graphic crude language, and bible spouters who haven't even studied the bible to answer the question biblically correct and lucid.
To me, Freedom of speech is one thing - being free to be able to ask a very personal question, or be able to disagree with an answer or an opinion, but I also believe in respect for the asker, and giving a direct answer to the question.

I know I agree somewhat. I hate when people give others a thumbs down because of THEIR opinion! Its their opinion its not your right to attack them with a bad mark its not fair either! But I DO believe in reporting someone if their answer or questions is racist, too sexual, or harms a child or deals with harming a child.
Freedom is free but it sure didn't come cheap. I think people should definitely respect freedom and never take it lightly.

There's freedom of speech in one hand, but in the other there are idiots on Yahoo who use this forum to express their hate, bigotry, and most of all stupidity.
We have a choice not to have them here if we feel they are harmful or make us fell uncomfortable.
Some people talk about rape and molestation and murder, and it is despicable. Those people do not deserve a voice.
Anything else is petty to me and I just give them thumbs down.

i love your question and i was just going to say the same thing.
if we all have the right to freedom of speech, why is it when some of us express our opinions on yahoo answers, there is always one person who has to report us.

Speaking your mind freely but also responsibly, there is a difference between freedom of speech to get your opinions out and share experiences and speaking freely to cuss people down.

Well I believe in freedom of speech. However, when you leave racist comments (AS THE ONE YOU LEFT ON MY PAGE WHEN ALL I REQUESTED WAS IDEAS FOR LATIN NAMES) than you have no freedom, and the speech half is worthless!
