Me!

I love my house. It is an expression of who I am. My soul. My work of art. All my treasures collected & displayed. All my memories & dreams stored. The advantage of having a new house was getting to choose everything. Cherrywood floors in the living room light grey walls white mantle fireplace black leather couch silver bookcases chrome & glass coffee table. Cherrywood cabinets in kitchen stainless appliances grey ceramic tile floors glass table light turquoise walls which really pop against the burgundy cabinets...then the theme in my master bedroom is zen safari -- earth tones & decor with asian & african influences (walls taupe, furniture black, bedding an abstract print with taupe, grey, black & white, zebra accents, Buddhas), the office is lavender & silver, the guest room grey & maroon & grey berber carpet upstairs. And the whole house is decorated with my paintings. It's like an art gallery...sorry I'm giving way too much info (as if you care!) but I get excited about my house! People have told me I should go into interior design but I'm too chickensh%^ to attempt anything like that so instead I keep working at the reasonably lucrative yet soul-destroying occupation that I've found myself in just to pay the mortgage...

I love interior decorating magazines & HGTV. Now I've started gardening (Japanese Maple, blue spruce, blue fescue, blue junipers, red astilbe, white love lies bleeding etc). It is like a living painting...

Anyway, I'm babbling sorry...

There is a line from Under the Tuscan Sun (my favourite movie) that explains what a home is meant to be:
"What are four walls anyway? They are what they contain. The house protects the dreamer..." it is a beautiful sanctuary from the occasionally cruel world outside...

WHAT'S interior decorating? I have a captain's bed for a sofa, (drawers underneath), some kind of old "telephone" spool I guess they used to wrap wires around for a coffee table, a massive oak Mexican card table on a pedestal for the table, a Mexican rug on the bedroom window, a pianophone, tamburitza (sp), huge ship's lamp with a red globe, Asian gongs, a Prussian helmet, a coat rack with a collection of hats, a drinking gourd & copper pots, five witch's brooms, bookcases a friends great-great grandfather made (all different) little antique mirrors everywhere, one of the oldest sewing machines, a nest of blue eggs under glass, a Spanish galleon it took someone two years to make, a working cannon...Okay I won't go on. So, what's with this interior decorating stuff?

Me. I moved into a new home 2 years ago. I has about 800 more sq.ft. than my old home. I have designed 2 pieces of furniture and had them built. One was a 6 ft. wide dresser with 8 drawers and doors in the middle with a shelf inside. Above the doors is an opening for a DVD player. This sits in the great room with a big flat screen TV and DVD player. The guest room has an oak boolcase with a finished back as a headboard for the twin bed. On top a reading lamp and phone. The hidden side has 4 shelves for books and other stuff. I use marble and brass as accessories and have really nice oak tables. I'm having a blast decorating, it is the first time in my life I have been able to do this. Thanks for asking.

Because I'm an artist my walls are covered with art, both mine and others. The walls are neutral white so not to detract from what is hanging on the walls. I would never buy 'art' to match the color scheme in my house because the art is the color scheme.

Because I love both literature and general knowledge you'll find full bookcases in every room (except the bathroom) in my home.

Because I prefer comfort over showcase furniture the furniture I do have is comfortable, if not always matched.

Because I love nature and enjoy having a bit of it inside where there are not bookcases there are houseplants.

Because I eat healthy, but simply, my kitchen is functional and only that. Feeding my head tends to be more important than feeding my face.

I've bought my furniture at yard sales or thrift shops and my dinnerware the same way. If something gets broken or scratched, so what? It's only furniture or china.

Like Psychic Cat I think what you do with your life is much more important than what you do with your house.

My thoughts, my memories, my dreams, my will-power do MY interiors. They are forever rearranging it as per their whims. Sometimes if I meet an interesting person I let him do the touch-ups on the peeling paints of my hearts walls. Some have the power to light up my interiors while others can shove me deep in darkness. So I have learnt to disallow entry to most negative ones and welcome only good, honest, clear-hearted ones who bring in warmth......

you could't carry your self out as an indoors dressmaker until eventually you're qualified with the aid of the ASID. i might propose beginning a "domicile Staging" agency. This makes use of lots of the talents of indoors decorators yet does not contain electric powered, plumbing, or mechanical ameliorations. you could start up with the aid of staging homes on the industry. artwork with realtors or rapidly with belongings proprietors. as quickly as you get extremely a recognition, promote which you will "degree" homes for energetic residing, exciting, relaxing, etc. That way you get to apply your skills without the long education it is had to be an indoors dressmaker. with the aid of the way, there are courses for domicile stagers that final weeks quite than months. stable success!

My dog, Bandit. She is a german shepherd mix with an eye for color and design. She has done some marvelous things with dirty socks, and she rearranges the sneakers on the floor in the most glorious patterns. She is never destructive, she is a pure and creative force.
